About Mibbinbah
Mibbinbah is an Indigenous Health Promotion Charity that celebrates the great diversity of culture and language represented by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Since 2007, Mibbinbah has coordinated a national program of events for men, women, and children from our communities, including an annual gathering.
Together with communities, Mibbinbah uses a locally-defined ‘proper way’ to establish culturally safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women, and children to explore and enrich their identity, well-being, and skills. These safe spaces enable spirit healing, empowerment, celebration, and education & training.
Our Values: The three primary values that guide Mibbinbah are Culture, Respect, and Gratitude. These values align closely with the Frank Montagnese Foundation’s commitment to fostering healthy relationships, supporting community well-being, and funding innovative research.
Taking Our Rightful Place: Mibbinbah is committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as they take their rightful place in society. The organisation remembers the past with both its triumphs and traumas, recognises the wide diversity of backgrounds that Indigenous people come from, and shares a vision of the future where strong leadership provides hope and eliminates lateral violence. This is known as the “Mibbinbah Proper Way”.
Culturally Safe Spaces: Mibbinbah creates safe spaces to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to meet and discuss issues of concern. By identifying and addressing common life factors such as racism, trans-generational trauma, and loss of culture, identity, and land, Mibbinbah supports participants on their journey. The approach builds on earlier work by leaders like Dr Mick Adams and Professor Kerry Arabena.
Mibbinbah National Gathering 2023
The 2023 Mibbinbah Spirit Healing organisation hosted its first-ever combined male and female national gathering, celebrating the diversity and unity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures. Held from October 10–13 in Batemans Bay, NSW, the event welcomed over 75 participants from various backgrounds and regions.
The gathering featured cultural activities such as workshops, ceremonies, dances, and songs, showcasing the richness and beauty of Indigenous cultures. Participants also enjoyed the natural scenery and wildlife of Batemans Bay, which added to the sense of connection and belonging. The event demonstrated Mibbinbah’s vision of promoting healing, empowerment, and harmony among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration.
